107.3 HFM Radio is run 100% by volunteers. Our presenters prepare and present shows driven by a passion for the selected topic of that show. This may revolve around a particular genre of music, or an interest in local current affairs or a passion for their own cultural heritage. Our goal is to live up to the tagline “The Voice of Your Community” and so if you think you would like to present a show at 107.3 HFM please get in touch. Training is available so don’t be afraid to contact us even if you have no experience in radio.

Adrian Penny "Hugo" – Presenter on Rockaria

I’ve been a long-time listener of HFM some 20+ years. I have known Frank since primary school, so we go back quite some time as well. After an unfortunate health issue, I was no longer able to sit in my bar and enjoy (heckle) the show, so Frank and Ryan invited me into the station to see how the show was produced. My Saturday afternoons were at a loss so I was invited by Frank and Ryan to join Rockaria.

Although I don’t say a lot, I enjoy the banter that goes on. Nearly 3 years ago I started a segment within the show called Hugos Metal Meltdown (Hugo being a nickname from my youth) and the rest is history.

Chris Cooper "Coops – Presenter on Rock or Bust & The 4th Dimension

Chris Coopers Coops

Coops is a child of the ‘70s. Brought up on the music of the great bands from that time – Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Pink Floyd, and more – and the iconic Aussie bands from the same era – AC/DC, Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, The Angels, and so on. Coops has a love of old school rock and metal; he can sometimes be seen as a bit of a rock ‘n’ roll dinosaur …but that said, Coops has a thirst for finding new music to share with listeners from the ever-expanding universe of music. When it comes to choosing what to play, it gets harder each week: there is more music in the pool to choose from this week than last, with only the same amount of time to share it. Coops sees investing in music purchases as a form of altruism: he buys music – new and old – so that the listener can enjoy it! Coops also has a passion for discovering and promoting new Western Australian and Australian artists through the medium of radio.

Coops has been involved with community radio at various times since 2003. He started as an on-air presenter at 105.5 RoxFM in Roxby Downs, South Australia (where he picked up the T.Rox handle as “the rock ‘n’ roll dinosaur” on the back of his rock program Hot Rox). From there Coops moved to Newman in the Pilbara, broadcasting three shows per week from the studios of 92.9 6NEW. After a hiatus from radio with a return to the Perth metropolitan area, Coops eventually found his way to 107.3 HFM, going live with Rock or Bust! on ANZAC Day 2016, a Monday night rock show that continues to this day. Coops is also part of the presenter roster for the Saturday night program 4th Dimension.

Rock or Bust! – Monday nights 7:00pm until late | 4th Dimension – Saturday nights 6:00-9:00pm (as part of a rotating roster of presenters)

Darren Green "Radman" – Presenter on The Sunday Sesh with Radman

Darren Green "Radman"

A lover of 90’s Pop-rock/Grunge/Metal/Indie music Darren hosts the Sunday Sesh program on Sunday afternoons. He describes his musical taste as “tunes you can cook a barbie to while having a few drinks with friends, with spontaneous headbanging moments likely”.

Bands such as Green Day, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, RHCP, Live, Metallica, Guns N Roses, AC/DC are a staple, along with modern bands influenced by the 90’s sound. Going under the moniker ‘Radman’, you can catch Darren every Sunday afternoon from 4-6pm

Frank Scatchard "Frankinator" – Presenter on Rockaria

Frank Scatchard "Frankinator"

Frank grew up In Heritage Country and destiny sealed my fait by returning me to my roots in a way I would never have believed would happen.

Frank says “I loves a wide range of music, but you’d never guess that, based on my 10 year tenure hosting ROCKARIA, where we love airing the local underdogs of hard & heavy music.

Community Radio has been a very satisfying part of my life.

As a proud member of the Armadale Community Men’s Shed, I contribute to fostering a supportive environment where men can connect, share skills, and support each other. My commitment to mentoring and volunteering has allowed me to make a positive impact on the lives of many, helping to build a stronger, more connected community.

I attended Wesley College and completed my Leaving. I successfully completed a Diploma of Public Administration and an Education Degree, majoring in Music. My educational background has equipped me with a diverse skill set and a deep appreciation for the arts, which I bring to my community work and personal interests.

In recognition of my contributions, I was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award for the Electorate of Burt in 2023. This honour reflects my dedication to service and the positive impact of my efforts within the community.

One of the notable projects I have been involved in is the commissioning of a Produce Cart for Yagan Square by the Regional Planning Authority, undertaken by the Armadale Community Men’s Shed. This project highlights our commitment to supporting local initiatives and enhancing community spaces.

Each year, the Armadale Community Men’s Shed also cooks breakfast for the Triumph Motorcycle Club when they create their emblem on the green outside the Station’s studios. This annual event is a testament to our community spirit and the strong relationships we build through our activities.

Since 2015, we have been producing “Men in Sheds,” a program that showcases the stories and achievements of our members. This initiative has helped to raise awareness about the importance of men’s health and the positive impact of community involvement.

In addition to my community work, I am an avid supporter of the Fremantle Dockers. I enjoy following their games and celebrating their achievements, such as Caleb Serong’s recent Doig Medal win. My enthusiasm for the team reflects my broader passion for sports and community spirit.

Ryan Honschooten "The Henshooter" – Presenter on Rockaria

Ryan Honschooten

Hey there! I’m Ryan, or as some know me, The Henshooter.

I’ve been in the community radio game for over 30 years, doing all sorts of fun stuff. I’ve always had this dream of being the bold and brash breakfast announcer on a rocky FM station, but life took me down a different path.

Well, guess what? I finally got to live out that dream on a Saturday afternoon! I co-host Rockaria with Hugo and the Frankinator, and it’s an absolute blast.

And if you’re into rock music, you’re in for a treat because I have a weekly 4play that you won’t want to miss. So, grab your headphones and tune in!

Sean Appleyard "Savage" – Presenter on The Circle Pit

Sean Appleyard aka Savage

Sean is new to Community Radio but he is not new to music having played Guitar, Bass and Drums since 2001. Sean’s deep connection to live music stems from years of performing at some of Western Australia’s local festivals, popular venues and the smaller shows in between.
His wealth of experience, love for Heavy Metal and Hard Rock make him the perfect advocate for continuing HFM’s support of the local music community.
In 2025 under the name, “Savage”, he will be presenting a weekly Heavy Metal show on HFM – “The Circle Pit”, along with his close friend Bill Shaw, who uses the on air name of “Sticks”.
Sean brings his passion for Perth’s thriving live music scene to HFM, championing the station’s values of supporting local talent and promoting live performances.

Simon Lee – Presenter on Drive with Simon Lee

Simon Lee

Simon Lee has worked for the BBC, and commercial radio both locally and nationally in the UK before moving to Australia over 20 years ago.

He can be seen hosting quiz nights across Perth and heard on commercial radio in Perth.  If you were to ask where home is, he would say HFM. Simon presents Drive every Monday from 4pm

Stephen Hagan "Shaggy" – Presenter on It's A Rap

Stephen Hagen aka Shaggy

Stephen joined HFM in 2024 along with his dad to present a new show called It’s A Rap. “It feels like a cop out to say but I really am down to listen to anything and my interests have bounced around considerably over the years. Rock, indie, hip-hop, a little bit of country and even the blackest metal but I think above it all I’m what the kids would call a pop girlie. Something about those multi-layered harmonies, synths and vocal driven tracks. Pop isn’t a dirty word!

In terms of community I’ve spent my last 18 summers (and counting) playing for CBC Cricket Club where I spent nine years on the committee, seven as treasurer, and am a life member.

During my high school & uni days I also spent a number of years volunteering on Saturday mornings at a dance/activity class for children on the autism spectrum. Community radio, particularly the way our show is structured, is a great opportunity for me to keep in touch with the great up-and-coming music talent in our city and all over the country while also being able to share some of the older stuff that I’m still passionate about. It’s pretty cool to be able to be on the air and do all that with TH too.

Tony Hagan "Max" – Presenter on It's A Rap

Tony Hagen aka Max

I’ve always loved the opportunity to exercise my creative pursuits, and announcing on HFM allows me another way to do this. The “awe’ I get from listening to good music and then sharing it with others in the community is a real buzz.

This is especially true when I ‘discover’ new music from local and national artists. Community radio is the perfect place to closely connect with these artists and to assist them to pursue their passions.
