107.3 HFM is run entirely by volunteers and these volunteers carry out a very wide variety of roles. Most of the volunteers had no radio experience when they first joined the team. We would love to hear from community minded people who would like to give up a few hours per week and hopefully have some fun and learn some new skills while they do it.

Volunteer Positions

Chairperson

The position of Chairperson requires a person with good clear leadership qualities. The Chairperson should be organised and be a good communicator and motivator.

A good Chairperson can steer the ship, recognising the strength of the volunteers in the association and maximising the effectiveness of those volunteers.

They will be comfortable to give instruction at all levels and be comfortable representing the station at meetings with local and state government bodies.

The Chairperson will have good attention to detail, ensuring the association’s operation is based on good governance always.

Our constitution states that the duties of the Chairperson are:

It is the duty of the chairperson to consult with the secretary regarding the business to be conducted at each committee meeting and general meeting.

The chairperson has the powers and duties relating to convening and presiding at committee meetings and presiding at general meetings provided for in these rules.

Deputy Chairperson

The position of Deputy Chairperson is intended to assist the Chairperson in leading the association. The Deputy Chairperson will stand in for the Chairperson when they are not available and in those instances will act as the Chairperson.

The Deputy Chairperson will be a good communicator and team player who can manage multiple tasks.

They will be comfortable to give instruction at all levels and be comfortable representing the station at meetings with local and state government bodies.

The duties of the Deputy Chairperson will be the same as the Chairperson whenever they are acting in that role.

Treasurer

The position of Treasurer is extremely important to the financial stability of the association. The suitable candidate will have a high degree of ability managing accounts with great attention to detail.

The position of Treasurer requires a person of the utmost levels of honesty and character.

Our Constitution states that the duties of the treasurer are:

Ensuring that any amounts payable to the Association are collected and issuing receipts for those amounts in the Association’s name;

Ensuring that any amounts paid to the Association are credited to the appropriate account of the Association, as directed by the committee;

Ensuring that any payments to be made by the Association that have been authorised by the committee or at a general meeting are made on time;

Ensuring that the Association complies with the relevant requirements of Part 5 of the Act;

Ensuring the safe custody of the Association’s financial records, financial statements and financial reports, as applicable to the Association;

If the Association is a tier 1 association, coordinating the preparation of the Association’s financial statements before their submission to the Association’s annual general meeting;

If the Association is a tier 2 association or tier 3 association, coordinating the preparation of the Association’s financial report before its submission to the Association’s annual general meeting;

Providing any assistance required by an auditor or reviewer conducting an audit or review of the Association’s financial statements or financial report under Part 5 Division 5 of the Act;

Carrying out any other duty given to the treasurer under these rules or by the committee.

Secretary

The position of Secretary is pivotal in the smooth operation of the association. A suitable person for the position of secretary must be comfortable using a computer and keeping accurate accounts of meetings and correspondence.

They should be of high literacy and have good attention to detail.

Our Constitution states that the duties of the Secretary are:

Dealing with the Association’s correspondence;

Consulting with the chairperson regarding the business to be conducted at each committee meeting and general meeting;

Preparing the notices required for meetings and for the business to be conducted at meetings;

Unless another member is authorised by the committee to do so, maintaining on behalf of the Association the register of members, and recording in the register any changes in the membership, as required under section 53(1) of the Act;

Maintaining on behalf of the Association an up-to-date copy of these rules, as required under section 35(1) of the Act;

Unless another member is authorised by the committee to do so, maintaining on behalf of the Association a record of committee members and other persons authorised to act on behalf of the Association, as required under section 58(2) of the Act;

Ensuring the safe custody of the books of the Association, other than the financial records, financial statements and financial reports, as applicable to the Association;

Maintaining full and accurate minutes of committee meetings and general meetings;

Carrying out any other duty given to the secretary under these rules or by the committee.

Business Committee Members

The Business Committee oversee our Corporate Members and Corporate Sponsors.

The Business committee is central in finding or retaining sponsors to ensure the financial stability of the station.

Operating the station is not cheap and so we rely on income from sponsor messages to help fund the running costs of the station.

The business committee help to find potential sponsors and bring them onboard.

Programming Committee Members

The Programming Committee oversee the content used in the mix of programs the station puts to air.

The programming committee also help shape the overall schedule seeking out new types of shows not currently present in our schedule.

The programming committee monitor the on air announcers and ensure they comply with the codes of conduct and assist in training new presenters.

Ordinary Committee Member

Ordinary Committee Member will generally assist the board of management on specific projects, such as helping to organise rosters for outside broadcast event.

These roles are very flexible and so will suit people with a broad range of experience but most importantly good communication skills and a willingness to learn and work in a team.

Grants Co-ordinator

This position would suit somebody with experience in applying for grants from bodies such as Local Council, Lottery West or The State Government.

The station needs somebody who can search for grants, timetable when they can be applied for and then co-ordinate the application process with the Committee’s support.

A good understanding of the language used in government grant applications is highly desirable as is a high level of attention to detail.

Membership Co-ordinator

This position will ideally suit somebody who is super organised and good with details.

The role will involve monitoring membership renewal dates and ensuring invoices are issued on time by our bookkeepers.

It is desirable that the member ship coordinator will assist in growing membership numbers by generating ideas to encourage new members to join the association.

Training Officer

We are seeking a training officer who can assist with training new volunteers in the use of studio equipment.

This would suit somebody with previous experience in radio presenting particularly in the Community radio sector. There is opportunity for this role to be a partially paid role if the candidate is suitably qualified.

Admin Manager

This role is a varied role as the center of communication between the Committee and presenters and volunteers at the station. It is essential that the candidate is a good communicator and very well organised.

Duties would include ensuring Amrap show listings are correct and up to date. Adding new show details and amending existing shows as the schedule changes.

Issuing station policies and procedures to new volunteers.

Fielding enquiries from musicians seeking to be played on the station and passing them on to the appropriate people on the Programming Committee.

Equipment Maintenance

We are seeking a person with good communications equipment knowledge and the ability to regularly maintain our broadcast equipment.

The candidate would ideally have experience in a radio station or radio communications and be comfortable with testing and maintaining the equipment.

Scheduling Assistant

Scheduling for the radio station is currently done weekly on a Thursday evening and takes about 1 hour.

The station only has one person trained to do the scheduling currently and we wish to train at least one more person to ensure we always have backup cover for the scheduler.

Knowledge of Station Playlist Creator software is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. A good understanding of computers is essential as is a good level of attention to detail and a willingness to learn new skills.

On Air Announcer

107.3HFM is operated entirely by volunteers. We are a community station that broadcasts family friendly content that should appeal to a broad age range audience in the Southern suburbs of Perth.

We are seeking, on air presenters or announcers for a range of time slots both weekdays and on the weekends. As a community radio station, we seek responsible people who are flexible, and willing to learn new, diverse skills.

The role will suit someone with an engaging persona with strong communication skills, and ability to commit to a minimum 2 -3 hours a week minimum.

We would like to add shows covering areas such as Country Music, Current Affairs, Radio Plays, Local Sports and Community groups to name but a few. WE are always looking for ideas for new shows, so if you have an idea please get in touch.

Radio Show Production Assistant

Community Radio Program Preparation with local community radio. 107.3HFM is operated entirely by volunteers. Preparation for programs involves a variety of tasks, including: pre-recording content, scheduling content, editing audio files, downloading content from the web, ripping content from CD’s, & maintaining the music library.

We are a community station that broadcasts family friendly content that should appeal to a broad age range audience in the Southern suburbs of Perth. If you feel you might like to try your hand at volunteering in this position please get in touch and we can discuss it further
